Suspended Artificial Greenery at Reece Bathrooms, Rosebery Engine Yards

Key Info

Client: Reece Bathrooms
Market Sector: Retail & Shopping
Project Classification: Complex

At Reece Bathrooms’ new Rosebery Engine Yards showroom, Evergreen Walls delivered a large-scale suspended greenery installation designed to make an impact from every angle. Two six-metre-diameter rings, positioned approximately four metres above the showroom floor, were transformed with 384 artificial plants across 37.7 linear metres, creating a continuous, maintenance-free canopy that softens the industrial architecture and adds a strong botanical focal point to the space.

The Vision

Reece Bathrooms’ new showroom at Rosebery Engine Yards provided an opportunity to incorporate greenery at a genuinely architectural scale.

Within the expansive showroom interior, two large circular structures were suspended approximately four metres above the floor. Each ring measured six metres in diameter, creating a striking framework for an overhead planting feature that could be seen from throughout the space.

The brief called for the two structures to become a continuous canopy of greenery β€” substantial enough to hold its own within the scale of the showroom while softening the surrounding exposed structure and services.

Evergreen Walls was engaged to supply and install the artificial planting across both suspended rings, transforming the functional cable-tray structures into large-scale botanical features with cascading foliage visible from every direction.

Across the two rings, the finished installation would cover approximately 37.7 linear metres.

The Process

This was not a conventional hanging plant installation.

Each six-metre ring was constructed from 150mm-wide cable tray and divided into 12 individual facets, each measuring approximately 1.5 metres. Across the two rings, this created 24 individual planting sections.

The project required a total of 384 artificial plants, packed and staged across 24 boxes β€” one box allocated to each 1.5-metre section.

A curated mix of eight trailing and hanging foliage varieties was used throughout the installation, with plants distributed across the sections to maintain consistent density, texture and trailing depth around the full circumference of each ring.

Syngonium varieties helped create a dense foundational layer, while the different fern varieties introduced variation in leaf shape and texture. Eucalyptus, ruscus and fittonia vines were distributed throughout the planting to create additional movement, colour variation and longer trailing elements.

With the greenery spread methodically across all 24 sections, the team could maintain a consistent planting density while ensuring the individual facets read as one continuous overhead feature rather than a series of separate sections.

Installation at approximately four metres above floor level required careful coordination around the existing ring structure, lighting, exposed services, suspension points and showroom environment.

Each plant was securely fixed to the cable-tray structure, with the planting continually assessed from multiple sightlines below to ensure consistent coverage.

The Result

The completed installation transforms the two suspended rings into major architectural features within the Reece Bathrooms Rosebery showroom.

From across the space, the greenery creates two continuous overhead landscapes that draw the eye through the showroom while providing a softer contrast to the building’s industrial structure and contemporary displays.

Up close, the diversity of the planting becomes more apparent. Ferns, vines and broadleaf foliage overlap at different heights and depths, creating movement and irregularity while concealing the cable-tray structure beneath.

The scale of the installation is what makes it particularly effective.

Across the two six-metre rings, 384 individual artificial plants create approximately 37.7 linear metres of continuous suspended greenery, giving the feature enough visual presence to influence the entire interior rather than simply decorate one section of the showroom.

Because the greenery is fully artificial, Reece gets a permanent, maintenance-free planting feature at height with no watering, irrigation, pruning, leaf drop or ongoing horticultural care required.

For greenery installed approximately four metres above the floor, removing those ongoing maintenance requirements is a major practical advantage.

The project demonstrates how custom suspended artificial greenery can be integrated directly into commercial architecture, turning functional overhead structures into distinctive design features without the maintenance requirements of live planting.

For large-scale commercial installations, our team can develop a custom artificial planting mix to suit the structure, viewing distance, required density and overall design intent.

FAQ's

Can artificial plants be installed on suspended ceiling structures?

Yes. Artificial plants can be integrated into suspended rings, ceiling frames, cable trays, mesh systems and other purpose-built structures.

The installation method will depend on the structure, suspension system, installation height, plant density and surrounding building services. For large commercial installations, these factors should be considered as part of the project planning process.

How are artificial plants attached to suspended rings?

The fixing method depends on the structure and the type of artificial greenery being used.

For the Reece Bathrooms Rosebery project, individual artificial plants were securely fixed around the cable-tray structure, with the planting distributed across 24 separate sections to create consistent coverage around both rings.

Particular attention was given to the joins between sections so the finished planting appeared as one continuous canopy.

How many artificial plants are needed for a suspended greenery feature?

The quantity depends on the size and shape of the structure, viewing distance, required density and the amount of trailing foliage needed.

For the two six-metre-diameter suspended rings at Reece Bathrooms Rosebery, Evergreen Walls used 384 individual artificial plants across approximately 37.7 linear metres to create a dense, continuous finish.

Are artificial hanging plants suitable for high ceilings?

Yes. Artificial hanging greenery is particularly well suited to high ceilings and difficult-to-access areas because it provides the appearance of dense planting without requiring watering, irrigation, pruning or ongoing horticultural care.

Plants with different trailing lengths can also be combined to create depth and movement when the installation is viewed from below.

What are the benefits of suspended artificial greenery in retail and showroom spaces?

Suspended greenery creates visual impact without taking up valuable floor area.

It can be used to soften large interiors, define areas within an open space, draw attention through a showroom or retail environment and turn otherwise functional ceiling structures into architectural features.

Because the planting is artificial, the finished feature is also maintenance-free.

Does artificial ceiling greenery require maintenance?

Artificial greenery does not require watering, irrigation, fertilising, pruning or replacement of unhealthy plants, making it a maintenance-free alternative to live planting.

Depending on the environment and installation location, occasional surface cleaning may be carried out as part of general building cleaning.

Can suspended artificial greenery be customised for different commercial spaces?

Yes. Suspended greenery installations can be designed around existing architectural structures or incorporated into purpose-built rings, frames, mesh systems, ceiling features and suspended planters.

Plant density, foliage varieties, trailing lengths and overall dimensions can all be tailored to suit the space and design intent.

Can Evergreen Walls supply and install custom commercial artificial greenery?

Yes. Evergreen Walls supplies and installs custom artificial greenery solutions for commercial projects across Australia, including suspended greenery, ceiling installations, hanging plants, planter systems, artificial green walls and large-scale feature installations.

Our team can work with architects, interior designers, builders and project teams to develop a planting solution suited to the structure, environment and project requirements.
