This residential project in Marsden Park used cascading artificial greenery to soften the strong architectural lines of a contemporary home.

Evergreen Walls installed a layered combination of EverTrail Ferns, Fern Hanging Bushes and Angel Vine Hanging Bushes across two elevated exterior ledges. Upright ferns were added to the front elevation for extra height and dimension, creating a lush, established finish without the maintenance of live planting.

The Vision

The homeowner wanted to introduce natural-looking greenery to the home’s bold exterior while complementing its black cladding, white render and exposed brickwork.

The aim was to create a dense, cascading effect that would soften the façade and look convincing from the driveway, street and adjoining park. As the planting areas were positioned high above ground, artificial greenery offered the visual impact of established plants without difficult watering, pruning or ongoing maintenance.

The Process

Two separate exterior areas were treated.

The primary installation was positioned above the garage and extended approximately 3.545 metres across the front elevation. An additional section wrapped approximately 500mm around the return, ensuring the greenery did not end abruptly when viewed from an angle.

The secondary installation extended approximately 5.1 metres along the park-facing side of the home.

EverTrail Ferns, Fern Hanging Bushes and Angel Vine Hanging Bushes were blended to create varied foliage shapes, lengths and densities. The trailing greenery was carefully arranged to fall naturally over the ledges while concealing joins between sections.

Upright ferns were added exclusively to the front installation. These introduced height along the upper edge and prevented the arrangement from appearing flat against the dark cladding.

The Result

The completed installation creates a strong contrast against the home’s contemporary materials while retaining a relaxed, natural appearance.

The layered foliage softens the building’s geometric lines, adds movement to the façade and connects the two elevations through a consistent greenery treatment. The return section gives the front installation a complete architectural finish, while the longer park-facing section draws greenery across the side of the home.

The result is the look of mature cascading planting in an otherwise difficult-to-access position—with no watering, trimming or seasonal plant loss.
