The Vision

Westside HQ Club's bistro refurbishment called for a greenery scheme that would do more than decorate — it needed to work architecturally. The brief, developed in collaboration with BSPN Architecture, centred on integrating artificial planting directly into the built joinery: custom banquette seating planters that would define zones, soften hard edges, and bring a lush, layered botanical presence to the bistro floor.

The challenge was density and variety. With multiple planter zones across the venue — long banquette runs, curved corner triangles, and smaller intimate booths — the greenery needed to feel considered and abundant at every scale, while remaining entirely maintenance-free in a high-use club environment.

Evergreen Walls was engaged to supply a fully specified planting scheme across all four planter zones, working directly from BSPN Architecture's design documentation to ensure each arrangement was precisely tailored to its location.

The Process

The supply scope covered four distinct planter configurations, each designed to suit its footprint and visual role within the bistro.

The two long banquette runs required the most species variety - a rich layered mix designed to fill extended linear planters at eye level from adjacent seating. Anthurium clarinervium, calathea, and spathiphyllum provided bold upright form and varied leaf texture, while calathea burgundy, philodendron, and leather fern bushes built out the mid and lower layers. Grass bush, zebra plant, and syngonium hanging bush added movement and trailing interest along the planter edges - spilling naturally over the joinery and reinforcing the garden-like density the design called for.

The banquette triangle planters anchored the curved corner booths with a more dramatic vertical composition. Bird of paradise plants at 152cm and 183cm provided strong upright structure rising above the seatback line, underplanted with spathiphyllum, calathea bush, and spider plant to fill out the base and create a complete, tiered arrangement in a compact footprint.

Across all zones, custom pot/planter filler and coconut husk were used to bed each arrangement, ensuring a natural, finished appearance at soil level throughout.

The Result

The completed planter installations give Westside HQ Club a genuine sense of enclosure and character. Greenery lines the banquette seating throughout the space — framing booths, dividing zones, and creating a layered botanical backdrop that reads as lush and considered from every angle.

The variety of species across the club ensures no two sections feel identical, while the consistent palette ties the whole floor together. The corner triangle arrangements deliver a striking focal point in each curved booth, with the tall bird of paradise forms providing a vertical anchor that draws the eye upward and adds presence to what would otherwise be dead corners.

Because every plant is artificial, the club benefits from a zero-maintenance installation that will hold its colour, form, and density through years of daily service — no watering, no seasonal replacement, no deterioration under artificial lighting.
