Daydream Island Resort and Their Idyllic Greenery

Daydream Island Resort and Their Idyllic Greenery

Project Details

Executive Summary

When Hunt Design, the architects behind Daydream Island Resort's recent renovation got in touch, we jumped at the chance to take ownership of their greenery installation. The resort reopened in early 2019 after being ravaged by Cyclone Debbie in March 2017. The devastation imposed by the natural disaster forced Daydream Island to close for almost an entire year, resulting in a highly anticipated reopening. Our help was enlisted to install the all important finishing touches including vines and bushes cascading over balconies, planter boxes filled with colourful Birds of Paradise and vines climbing the walls of the entry walkway. Hunt Design realised the benefits artificial greenery had over living plants in this particular scenario as maintenance requirements would be extremely difficult in a place of such remoteness and knew Evergreen Walls are the artificial greenery experts. We sent a team of five talented installers over to carry out the works and had the large scale job completed in nine days, just in time for the grand reopening.

Challenges

The job presented multiple challenges, but thankfully we love a challenge! Being a remote island, we had to deliver our products via a barge and then due to limited storage on the island, we were required to commence works the same day.

Evergreen Walls is Sydney based, so in addition to coordinating product logistics, we also had to organise for our five man team of installers to stay on the island for nine days. Although challenging, none of these factors became problematic thanks to the incredible organisation skills of our project management team.

How Our Products Helped

We used a combination of hanging bushesvines and plants in a proposal for the architect's approval before installation went ahead. Our bushes and vines helped to create an organic look that would be extremely difficult to differentiate from the real alternative. We wanted to bring the tropical surroundings into the main areas of the resort so selected tropical plants from our range that would fit the theme. Pops of colour from our purple toned plants and vibrant orange Birds of Paradise contrasted extremely well against the deep green foliage.

Results, Return on Investment and Future Plans

The team at Daydream Island resort were extremely satisfied with the overall result and so were we. Our artificial greenery was the perfect solution for the unique requirements of the project. We were able to elevate the resorts atmosphere to compete with its beautiful surroundings whilst keeping maintenance levels to an absolute minimum - crucial in a remote island setting. The additional perks of not needing additional maintenance personnel to upkeep large amounts of greenery was warmly welcomed and the ease at which we carried out the project left everyone very content.
